I Chronicles 16:34 states: “Oh give thanks to the Lord, for he is good; for his steadfast love endures forever!” (ESV)

I do not see anywhere in Scripture where God is thankful or unthankful like humanity. God is the Author of thankfulness for mankind and I see lots of places in the Bible where mankind is and should be thankful to Him for the many benefits He gives us by His grace!

According to Merriam-Webster’s dictionary, “thankful” means “conscious of benefit received.” By this definition, mankind is thankful to God for the benefit received from the FREE gift of salvation.

God is not thankful in a human way since God is “self-sufficient” and “self-sustaining.” This means God does not need us though He loves us greatly and is gracious and merciful to all of mankind. What a great God we serve Who loves us though He does not need us – we need Him!

So, in reality, God is not thankful nor is He unthankful in the human-sense. God is self-sufficient and the Giver of thankfulness.

-Mark (thankful that our God does not need me but chooses to love me because He wants me to be completely sold out to Him)
