Most of us think that obeying God makes our lives easier. But I think it’s actually the opposite most of the time.
Obeying God makes life in this world harder because the world does not embrace God’s ways!
Take Exodus 5 for example. God tells Moses to go to Pharaoh to ask to let God’s people go. What happens? Well, in Exodus 5:6-9 it states:
“The same day Pharaoh commanded the taskmasters of the people and their foremen, 7 “You shall no longer give the people straw to make bricks, as in the past; let them go and gather straw for themselves. 8 But the number of bricks that they made in the past you shall impose on them, you shall by no means reduce it, for they are idle. Therefore they cry, ‘Let us go and offer sacrifice to our God.’ 9 Let heavier work be laid on the men that they may labor at it and pay no regard to lying words.”
Imagine if that’s you: “Ok, God, I did it. Now, it’s worse. These people are really going to hate me now! Thanks a lot!”
It’s the same in biblical counseling. We have to speak the truth in love to people and they often do NOT want to hear it. We have no choice because we must obey God and trust Him with the results. Our first requirement is to glorify Him by doing what He commands. We are simply to follow His orders from His Word of truth.
That’s a tough place to be but guess what, it’s the only place to be.
Keep reading to see what happens but remember that this whole thing took time and took faith in God that He would eventually do what He said He would do in His perfect timing.
