Thankful That Spiders Eat Flies in Egypt

My Trip to Egypt (part 7) – Plagued by Flies

I had wondered why the 4th plague of the 10 plagues mentioned in Exodus 8 was such a big deal. Flies? How bad could that be?

Well, I understand now having been in the desert for 4 days. Wow. Flies are everywhere. I left my door open for 10 minutes and had at least 25 flies inside my room. Big mistake.

Thankfully, I trapped many in the window and the others seemed to go away except for a few that like to keep late and very early hours landing on foreheads, noses, cheeks, and ears. They really tickle you and pester you. It’s nearly impossible to eat at first but you get used to it. You just don’t want to have your mouth open too long or you will swallow a fly…and perhaps you’ll die (like the song, “There was an old woman who swallowed a fly”…sing it with me now!).

That biblical plague must have been awful! Ugh.
