Too often, I think our society teaches us how to PRETEND to agree and keep silent RATHER than properly, lovingly, and peacefully debating the issues of disagreement.
When we disagree, why can’t we discuss those points of debate without the emotion and analyze issues, thoughts, and ideas?
I think it’s because most of us (myself included) are unteachable and not open to differing opinions. We really don’t want to consider the possibilities that we might be wrong.
I think it’s like the account of the road to Emmaus in Luke 24:16 when the 2 disciples of Jesus did not recognize Jesus: “But their eyes were kept from recognizing him.”
Why were they blinded? I believe 1 likely reason is that they could NOT conceive of the possibility that it was Jesus. They thought He was dead but He wasn’t. Though they heard His teachings, they did not remember them and were not living by faith to all of the possibilities. So, they missed Christ.
Are you missing Christ? Are you teachable and do are you open to the possibilities that He might just do something that will blow you away?
As a biblical counselor, do you think that your counselees are hopelessly lost based on their circumstances? If so, consider the power of Christ. He still changes hearts and transforms them into His image (2 Cor. 3:18 & Rom. 12:1-2).
Let’s be open to what He is doing that does not fit in our little boxes.
