I remember my wife was teaching our family about Proverbs 10:4: “A slack hand causes poverty, but the hand of the diligent makes rich.” She was emphasizing to them that hard work of the diligent is what rewards a person and that people who are lazy will come to poverty just as the drunkard and glutton will come to poverty, too, according to Proverbs 23:21: “for the drunkard and the glutton will come to poverty, and slumber will clothe them with rags.”

So the next day or so, my son had a bad head injury and accident requiring internal and external stitches. He was 5 years old and could have died. But he didn’t and the stitching went well though they had to DRUG him with anesthesia during the procedure. An hour or so later, when we were walking out of the hospital, our son said to his mommy:

“I think I have a slack hand, Mommy.”

This young boy KNEW that he was feeling like a drunkard on the medicine though he had never tried the stuff before and he related that feeling to the Word of God about a slack hand. So let this encourage you that it is never too early to teach your children to read and learn the Bible and bigger concepts about addiction. Children are smarter than we realize.
